After 1945
By 1945 the Nazis and their allies already murdered over 6 million Jews and non Jews. They suffered from starvation, diseases, and many other cruel techniques. Many of the survivors were in fear of possible emigration. tens of thousands of Jews went homeless and even were forced to be housed in displaced person camps. Many international and domestic courts conducted trials of accused war criminals. Its not until 1988 when the United States ratifies the genocide convention. Then in 1993 is the opening of the US Holocaust memorial museum.
